42 Viking Yachts Open

The Viking 42 Open and her sistership, the Viking 42 Convertible, are the first Viking models to have Zeus drive propulsion. With her graceful profile, the 42 has the same stylish lines as Viking’s larger convertible models. The split mezzanine overlooking the 120
sq. ft. cockpit conceals insulated storage compartments under the seats, and post/starboard fish boxes and a transom door with gate are standard in the cockpit. A bait freezer and transom livewell are optional. A center-console helm on the slightly raised bridge deck provides unobstructed 360-degree visibility. The companionway is offset to port and opens to a spacious salon area with the galley to starboard and an L-shaped settee and dinette to port. Finding a midcabin interior in a boat of this type comes as a surprise — it’s only possible because of the reduced engine room dimensions that pod drives require. The standard layout has twin berths in the aft stateroom under the helm deck and an island berth in the forward stateroom. An alternate interior trades the dinette for a third cabin with over/under berths and a second head compartment, both to port.

The Viking Yacht Brand

Viking Yachts was founded by brothers Bob and Bill Healey in 1964 when they bought Peterson-Viking Builders, a small, struggling New Jersey builder of 37′, wooden sportfishing Yachts. Those humble beginnings of course led to Viking Yachts, now a world-leader in semi-custom fiberglass yacht production with over 4,000 Viking sportfish and motoryachts delivered. With Bob Healey still at the company helm as Chief Executive Officer and deal maker, and Bill as company President, chief Yachtbuilder and head of Viking Yacht’s in-house design and engineering teams, this family-owned and managed business is thriving. Viking Yacht Company builds over 100 high-end sportfishing yachts, from 45′ to 82′ each year. Viking Yachts’s order sheet is full for the next 12 months, depending on the model, with sales limited only by production capacity. With 1,400 employees building yachts in Viking’s state-of-the-art, 600,000 square-feet, waterfront-manufacturing facility, business has never been better, and expansion plans are under way to increase production of its largest models.

Viking Yachts Today is the preeminent brand in luxury sportsfishing yachts, universally recognized for their performance, tournament pedigree, styling and lavish comforts. For generations, Viking Yachts has celebrated the sea by creating some of the world’s finest convertible yachts, enclosed bridge yachts and open yachts.

Viking Yachts set the standard for excellence; then constantly explore advancements in design, craftsmanship and performance. The company’s exacting standards are reflected in their legendary manufacturing capabilities. To assure optimal quality, Viking Yachts closely scrutinizes every detail of the building process from initial design to finished yacht. In fact, they produce 90 percent of each Yacht in their 810,000 square-foot manufacturing facility on the Bass River near Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The company operates a service center in Riviera Beach, Florida, near the Palm Beach inlet, which handles warranty, fiberglass and running gear repairs. Staffed by factory-trained professionals, Viking Yachts is the only manufacturer to provide its owners with a convenient satellite facility.

Family owned and operated, brothers Bob and Bill Healey founded Viking Yachts in 1964. Their impact extends well beyond the company. The brothers have been recognized by their peers and inducted into the National Marine Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame for their selfless contributions to the entire recreational marine industry. In addition, they are instrumental in the leadership of The Recreational Fishing Alliance, a national, grassroots political action organization representing recreational fishermen and the recreational fishing industry on marine fisheries issues.
