2015 Gain in Outboard Sales

The NMMA has reported that outboard engine retail sales have risen 8.7 percent in 2015, placing sales at a post-recession high. An increasing demand for high-powered engines is seen through the 23.2 percent increase in the average horsepower since 2004.

In the coming months, the 2015 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract will be released by section and will address thousands of data points as well as insight about the boating industry nationwide. The Statistical Abstract’s data sections will be released in the following order:

March: sailboat sales trends

April: used-boat market; international exports/imports

May: cruiser, water sport and offshore fishing boat sales trends; powerboat sales trends; total industry sales by category and state

July: total boat registrations

August: full report

NMMA President Thom Dammrich stated “NMMA’s annual Statistical Abstract is the most comprehensive collection of industry data available and a trusted source for recreational boating statistics — our revamp of the format and corresponding release schedule makes the data even more valuable because it’s now timelier, and therefore much more useful to the industry. With the data being available immediately after it is gathered and analyzed by our team, the industry can utilize it to better understand our changing industry.”

Along with much other data and information, the report highlights outboard engines as a leading indicator for boat sales, as well as looks into a detailed report on total dollar sales, units sold, average prices and top 20 states.
